After three weeks the nurse imformed me that my glucose test was very good and I am free of all disease.

All diebetes patients has to go for glucose test

All diebetes patients has to go for glucose test. The fasting are mostly done a night before from 10pm until the next morning 8am onwards where the measures the level of glugose on the blood at that time. The normal glugose test level should be between 70 to 110 mg/dl. The glugose levels are much higher if the diebetes is uncontrolled.

I had a heart attack last six months ago and I still have to go for glugose test every two month to check whether I got diebetes. Sugar is an important source of energy, especially for the brain. The amount of glucose in your blood is carefully controlled by the endocrine (glandular) system. This system causes sugar to be stored or used for energy, depending on the needs of your body.

You can get glucose directly from some foods, such as table sugar. Your body also produces glucose when other foods, such as bread and cereal, are digested.

How is the test done?

Your health care provider may poke your finger with a lancet and fill a small tube with the blood. Or a small amount of blood may be taken from your arm with a needle. The blood is sent to a lab.

Having this test will take just a few minutes of your time. It is used to detect both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia and to help diagnose diabetes. Blood glucose may be measured on a fasting basis (collected after an 8 to 10 hour fast), randomly (anytime), post prandial (after a meal), and/or as part of an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT / GTT). An OGTT is a series of blood glucose tests. A fasting glucose is collected; then the patient drinks a standard amount of a glucose solution to "challenge" their system. This is followed by one or more additional glucose tests performed at specific intervals to track glucose levels over time. The OGTT may be ordered to help diagnose diabetes and as a follow-up test to an elevated blood glucose.

FDA CLEARS TWO GLUCOSE TEST METERS
FDA has cleared for marketing two glucose test meters used with personal digital assistants (PDAs).

The devices will allow people with diabetes to more easily track and manage their blood sugar levels through use of computer technology.

The products, which have two components with associated software, integrate parts of each company's currently marketed glucose meters and test strips with a Handspring Visor PDA.
To use, the patient inserts a glucose meter module into the hand-held computer. The user then inserts a test strip into the meter, collects a blood sample, and places it onto the test strip. The test results can also be uploaded onto a personal computer.

In addition to measuring and tracking glucose levels, the new systems allow users to track a variety of other data that may affect their health, such as insulin usage, food intake, exercise, and medicine.

Definition:
A glucose test measures the amount of sugar (glucose) in the blood.

How the test is performed:

Blood is drawn from a vein (venipuncture), usually from the inside of the elbow or the back of the hand. The puncture site is cleaned with antiseptic, and a tourniquet (an elastic band) or blood pressure cuff is placed around the upper arm to apply pressure and restrict blood flow through the vein. This causes veins below the tourniquet to distend (fill with blood).
A needle is inserted into the vein, and the blood is collected in an airtight vial or a syringe. During the procedure, the tourniquet is removed to restore circulation. Once the blood has been collected, the needle is removed, and the puncture site is covered to stop any bleeding.

Infant or young child:
The area is cleansed with antiseptic and punctured with a sharp needle or a lancet. The blood may be collected in a pipette (small tube), on a slide, onto a test strip, or into a small container. Cotton or a bandage may be applied to the puncture site if there is any continued bleeding.

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you'll find that the subject of glucose test is certainly no exception.
A scientist in Baltimore has developed a contact lens that can provide diabetics with a non-invasive way to monitor blood sugar.

Instead of using blood, Dr. Chris Geddes of the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute has produced contact lenses that change color in response to the glucose level in the wearer's tears, KENS-TV in San Antonio reports.

Tears have a tiny concentration of glucose, about 1-10th of that of blood and there's a lag time of about 15 minutes before the eye registers the level.

"We've developed very special molecules that sense glucose at very low levels," said Geddes. "We've incorporated these inside commercially available contact lenses. The test is completely non-invasive and it's continuous."

Truthfully, the only difference between you and glucose test experts is time. If you'll invest a little more time in reading, you'll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to glucose test.

A person wearing the glucose-sensitive lenses would see a small translucent dot on the left side of the visual field. That dot would change color, warning the patient of dangerously low or high blood sugar levels.

Before the lenses can be commercially available, further testing is needed.
The Baltimore scientists are also working on contact lenses that sense cholesterol levels.

Hopefully the sections above have contributed to your understanding of glucose test. Share your new understanding about glucose test with others. First place a small sample of blood on a disposable test strip and place the strip in the meter. The test strips are designed and coated with chemicals such as glucose oxidase, dehydrogenase, or hexokinase that combine with glucose in blood.

The glucose meter measures how much glucose is in your blood. Some glucose meters do measurement in a different ways, some measure the amount of electricity that can pass through the blood sample or measure how much light reflects from it.

The glucose meter displays the glucose level in numbers. Let's see if we can fill in some of the gaps with the latest info from glucose test experts.

WHAT is pre-diabetes? Pre-diabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Pre-diabetes is a key stage in the development of type 2 diabetes.

However, not everyone with pre-diabetes goes on to develop type 2 diabetes. Pre-diabetes is characterized by disturbance in blood sugar levels as measured by impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or impaired fasting glucose (IFG). Patients can have one or both of these conditions to be considered pre-diabetic. The more authentic information about glucose test you know, the more likely people are to consider you a glucose test expert. Read on for even more glucose test facts that you can share.

Worldwide, 230 million people have diabetes and in 2003, more than 300 million people were estimated to have pre-diabetes. By 2025, it is estimated that approximately 500 million people will have pre-diabetes. At present, Southeast Asia has the highest number of people with pre-diabetes. By 2025, it is estimated that Southeast Asia will continue to have the highest prevalence of pre-diabetes (13.5 percent), followed by Europe (10.9 percent).

How is pre-diabetes diagnosed? Pre-diabetes may not cause easily recognized symptoms and can only be diagnosed with blood sugar tests such as the fasting plasma glucose test (FPG) which measures a persona blood sugar first thing in the morning before eating and the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) which measures a persona blood sugar after fasting and again two hours after drinking a sugar-rich drink.
Now might be a good time to write down the main points covered above. The act of putting it down on paper will help you remember what's important about glucose test.

what is glucose test

Diabetes has acquired its name from the Greek word “siphon”. Diabetes is a disorder of the metabolism and the endocrine system, and is a blood-related disease. It has two forms: Diabetes mellitus (from the Greek word for sugar) and Diabetes insipidus. The main causes of this disorder are that either the body does not produce enough insulin, as happens in type 1 diabetes, or it does not use the available insulin in a proper manner, as in type 2 diabetes. Insulin is a hormone that helps the body convert glucose into energy. The factors which contribute to diabetes include lack of exercise, excessive weight, age, poor diet and, most importantly, genetics.

The symptoms of diabetes are fatigue, as the body does not get enough energy due to non-absorption of glucose, unquenchable thirst due to frequent urination, and weakening of the eyesight as a consequence of loss of excess body fluid in the form of urine. A diabetic person is also susceptible to frequent infections, like urinary tract infections, colds and flu. Another symptom is a tingling or burning feeling in the hands and feet. Most of the time diabetes goes unchecked because the symptoms are harmless.

A number of tests have been devised to help find out if you are diabetic. The fasting plasma glucose test, done in the morning, is a relatively cheap and easy test. It measures the blood sugar levels when one is not eating. The random plasma glucose test does not require fasting and can be done at any time. This type of test is the easiest and does not require any preparation. The oral glucose tolerance test involves checking blood glucose while fasting and then asking the patient to drink a super-sweet solution, after which the test is repeated, the results are compared to the standard, and if your reading is higher than normal then you have diabetes. Other tests involve glycated hemoglobin, urine tests and finger-prick tests.

It is sad that diabetes is a life-long disease. Even if you undergo treatment in the form of medication, diet change and exercise to get your sugar levels under control, you are still diabetic.
